Leadership Douglas
Mission: The mission of Leadership Douglas is to identify, encourage and develop leadership abilities so that its participants grow both personally and professionally.
Leadership Douglas is a program of the Douglas County Chamber Foundation. It selects diverse and qualified individuals to provide a structured program that enhances leadership skills and community involvement for the betterment of all citizens, businesses, organizations and governments in Douglas County.
Through presentations, discussions and work sessions, the program seeks to inspire those who are willing to get involved. Participants are given the opportunity to meet and interact with current community and business leaders throughout the program.
Participants in Leadership Douglas benefit from getting to know one another and from the exchange of ideas and experiences. They gain knowledge and understanding on crucial issues facing our community, while also attaining leadership skills to make a difference. In addition, they develop a network of relationships with other leaders of various backgrounds throughout Douglas County.
Participants in the class not only learn about leadership principles, but also about how these principles are used by our local and state officials in the conduct of business. The class members are exposed to these topics: Leadership, Government/Judicial, Economic Development, Social Services, Cultural Diversity, Education, Emergency Services, and Arts and Culture.
Only 25 students are selected each year to participate in this highly selective program. Applicants must complete a detailed application including skills, professional experience and community involvement. Class participants are a diverse cross section of individuals from business, public service, education and service organizations. Applications are available in January each year.
